Denver Business Journal - by Bruce Goldberg

PASS THE METAMUCIL: Denver’s Cynthia Zeigler eventually plans to go national with her newly launched mybabyboomerdiscounts.com, where companies can offer discounts on goods and services to the ever-growing baby-boomer market, estimated to be 78 million people in the United States.

And Colorado businesses can advertise for free for the rest of 2009. Eventually, ads will cost $20 a month.

“We’re hoping it not only helps small businesses, mom-and-pop businesses, but also will help the consumer,” say Zeigler, who previously owned the Special Forces Marketing Group ad agency. “If I can save 10 percent on what I spend each year, that’s a vacation or something else.”

Her plans call for expansion into the Washington, D.C., area, followed by Texas, starting in Houston.

“I hit 55 in July, and started looking for companies that offered discounts for older customers,” she says. “I couldn’t find any websites. I thought this was a good way to connect businesses with customers.”

NEW ONLINE BABY BOOMER RESOURCE OFFERS FREE ADVERTISING

MyBabyBoomerDiscounts.Com launches to the public in November

ENGLEWOOD, Colorado- October 21, 2009 - Launching this fall, just days before the holiday shopping season, MyBabyBoomerDiscounts.Com is offering Colorado businesses the chance to advertise their services for free until the end of 2009 on a website that is designed to connect Baby Boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964) with local merchants.

“By providing a single resource that details businesses and the discounts they offer to what has been until now, called the “senior” market, we feel this will afford the retailer/service provider a way to target this growing demographic.” stated Cynthia Zeigler, President and Founder of MyBabyBoomerDiscounts.Com.

Baby Boomers have been viewed in the past as a population concerned with accumulating wealth, yet now in today’s economy, this enormous group is concerned about outliving their nest eggs and saving money has become extremely important.  There are 78 million baby boomers in the U.S. that control 75% of this nation’s wealth.  With aging parents, children married or in college and grandchildren, this is a generation that purchases everything.

Melissa Feather, L.Ac., Dipl. OM and owner of Jing Acupuncture and Herbal Pharmacy was one of the first Denver businesses that joined the site.  “I was very excited to hear about a website that targets my fastest growing client base,” said Ms. Feather.  “Recent studies show that alternative medicine is a growing trend among Baby Boomers.  When you look back on the history of this demographic, it is well known that they have always embraced non-traditional methods.  They welcome alternative ideas and of course, they are the Internet.  It made perfect sense to be a part of MyBabyBoomerDiscounts.Com.”

MyBabyBoomerDiscounts.Com’s goal is to be the largest free-to-the-consumer senior discount directory.  Launching initially in Colorado, their plan is to go national in 2010.
